Born in Cheverly, Maryland, Lise Drost earned her BFA from Florida International University and an MFA in Printmaking from Southern Illinois University. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania, the Oregon School (now College) of Arts and Crafts, and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, before deciding to return to Miami to set up her own printmaking studio. She joined the faculty of the University of Miami in 1993. Throughout her career, Drost has received 16 University of Miami Research and Instructional grants and two Florida Individual Artist Fellowships. Her work has been shown in 30 solo exhibitions in venues in Miami, Dallas, Portland, Chicago, and Washington, DC and she has had more than 350 juried and invitational exhibitions around the world. Her work is included in many public collections and a few hundred private collections. She is currently a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists in New York, Boston Printmakers, Print Arts Northwest and the Washington Printmakers Gallery in DC (all juried memberships). Drost was chair of the Art and Art History department at the University of Miami from 2006 until 2014. She is living and working in Miami, Florida.
