Frieda Fehrenbacher

Born in Portland, Oregon, Frieda Fehrenbacher was an artist, musician, and professor. She received a BA in Painting and Drawing from Portland State University and an MFA from Syracuse University. Fehrenbacher pursued a career as a college professor, teaching drawing and design at the Moore College of Art & Design, an independent women’s art school, in Philadelphia. Her own work was exhibited at a number of galleries in and around Philadelphia including the Rodger LaPelle Gallery, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the University of Pennsylvania, and Fleisher Art Memorial. She was the first Moore College faculty member to receive the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for distinguished teaching. Moore College selects two outstanding members of each year’s graduating class to receive The Frieda M. Fehrenbacher Foundation Award, as a tribute to her.
