Arturo Urista encodes stories and personal narrative into his works through the use of symbols and abstraction. The angled crosses that pattern the background of City Terrace reflect Urista’s relationship to Christianity; the large yellow swaths of color evoke the rising of the sun. Urista’s work speaks to the flow of information from the unconscious to the conscious mind. He creates the compositions for his work by bringing together bits and pieces of thoughts and images to create a unified whole.
