Mary Lovelace O'Neal

Painter and printmaker Mary Lovelace O’Neal was born in Jackson, MS. She earned her BFA from Howard University, Washington, DC, and an MFA from Columbia University, New York City. O'Neal was closely involved with the Black Art Movement in New York City.

O'Neal's work can be found in the permanent collections of the Oakland Museum of California; National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO, among other institutions. She retired as a professor of painting after a 30-year tenure at the University of California, Berkeley.
