Martha Zelt

Martha Zelt was born in Washington, PA. She earned her BA at Temple University, Philadelphia, and studied at Connecticut College, New London; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; The New School, New York City; and The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

Zelt has exhibited her art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA; Sixth Biennial of the World Textile Art Organization at Museo Diego Rivera, Mexico City; The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, Roswell, NM; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung City; The Print Center of Philadelphia; AIR Gallery, London; Santa Fe Art Festival, NM; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Salão Nacional de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Sao Paulo Art Biennial, Brazil; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York City.

Among the awards she has received are the Cresson Traveling Scholarship and the Scheidt Memorial Scholarship from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, a fellowship from the Print Center of Philadelphia, and a grant from the Roswell Museum & Art Center, NM.

Zelt taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and University of the Arts, Philadelphia; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; chaired the Department of Art at Virginia Intermont College, Bristol; and was a visiting professor at the University of Delaware, Newark.
