Julio Valdez-Gonzalez

Julio Valdez-Gonzalez is a painter, printmaker, teacher, and mixed-installation artist born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts, Santo Domingo, and graduated from Altos de Chavόn School of Design, the Parsons School of Design affiliate in the Dominican Republic.

In 1994, Valdez-Gonzalez received a fellowship from the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, New York City, and founded Julio Valdez Studio, which specializes in non-toxic contemporary printmaking processes. He lives and practices his art in New York City.

Valdez-Gonzalez has exhibited his art internationally at the June Kelly Gallery, New York City, Latin American Masters, Santa Monica, CA; Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, CT; Latin American Masters, Beverly Hills, CA; Galeria Botello, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Legacy Fine Art, Panama City, Panama; Art Museum of the Americas, Washington, DC; Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada; Galeria Plastica Contemporanea,  Guatemala; and the Institute of Hispanic Culture, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

His work is in the collections of institutions including El Museo del Barrio, New York City; Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, CA; Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, IN; Musée Grimaldi, Cagnes-Sur-Mer, France; Museo Rayo, Oldanillo, Colombia; Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca, Mexico; Fundación Cultural Altos de Chavón, La Romano, Dominican Republic; and Library of Congress, Washington, DC.
