David C. Driskell

David Driskell (19312020) was a painter, printmaker, and scholar of African American art from Eatonton, GA. He earned a BFA from Howard University, Washington, DC; an MFA from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC; and a study certificate in art history from the Netherlands Institute for Art History, The Hague. He is an emeritus professor at the University of Maryland-College Park.

Driskell's work can be found in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art (now the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design), Washington, DC; Baltimore Museum of Art; Oakland Museum of California; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City. The David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora, at the University of Maryland-College Park, honors his legacy.
