Akili Ron Anderson
Akili Ron Anderson is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor who earned a BFA and MFA from Howard University in his native Washington, DC.
Anderson was an artist-in-residence with the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities from 1971 to 1973 and he was the first chairperson of the Visual Arts Department at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC from 1974 to 1976. He is a co-founder of NationHouse and Watoto schools in Washington and a board member of the African Freedom Fund Treasury and Black Artists of DC.
Anderson has had exhibitions at Duke University, Durham, NC; Corcoran Gallery of Art (now Corcoran School of the Arts & Design), Washington, DC; Howard University Gallery of Fine Arts; The New Museum, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corp., Weusi Artist Collective, New York City; Miya Gallery, Washington, DC; and Hampton University Museum, VA. He taught full-time in the Department of Art at Howard University.
